Though peace negotiations have since hit a snag, the victory by the Congolese army offers an unexpected ray of hope in a region torn by conflict. Many credit a stronger U.N. peacekeeping mandate, renewed pressure from the international community, and new leadership in the Congolese army. We explore the issues and the likely path forward.
