New Reports Allege US Drone Strikes Violate International Law

In new reports two human rights groups, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, challenge the Obama administration’s use of drone strikes. The reports which are based on first hand accounts from northern Pakistan and Yemen documenting civilian casualties and the ongoing impact the killings in the regions. Last week a UN human rights investigator estimated that 2,200 people have been killed in drone strikes in Pakistan over the last decade. In May President Obama outlined this country’s policies for using drones. These policies included ‘near- certainty’ that no civilians will be killed or injured.
