President Franklin Roosevelt set the first mandated minimum wage 75 years ago at $.25 an hour. Since then, it’s been raised 22 times and is now $7.25 an hour. President Barack Obama is pushing for $9 an hour. Supporters say the increase is critical to the welfare of nation’s working poor and would also be a boost for the economy, but others argue it’s an increase many businesses, especially small businesses, can't afford.
