Campaign 2004: Primaries to the Presidency

Listen in Real AudioListen to this special

Was the media making - or breaking - Howard Dean's candidacy? How was President George W. Bush being covered as the Republican nominee? And what impact did the newly fractionalized - and increasingly partisan - nature of political news have on the election of our next President?

Panelists included:

David Corn, Washington editor, The Nation Magazine
Matthew Dowd, chief strategist, Bush/Cheney '04 Campaign
Guy Molyneux, senior vice president, Peter D. Hart Research Associates
Ken Walsh, chief White House correspondent, US News & World Report
Jane Hall, assistant professor in the School of Communication, will moderate the discussion. Hall specializes in covering issues in the news media, including ethics in journalism and politics and the media.

An American Forum has a tradition of examining critical media issues. Several times a year, AU's School of Communication brings together academics, journalists, elected officials, and public policy makers to address and debate the issues of the day.

The forum is free and open to the public. An American Forum is produced in cooperation with the School of Communications at American University.
