Game Over For Penn State Coach Joe Paterno

After 46 seasons, Joe Paterno is no longer the head coach of the Nittany Lion's football team. He was fired Wednesday night by Penn State's board of trustees. The interim head coach is Tom Bradley. Paterno was caught up in the child sex abuse scandal involving one of his former assistant coaches.

Pa.'s Capital Looks To The Wild West To Raise Cash

The debt-saddled city of Harrisburg, Pa., teeters between municipal bankruptcy and a possible state takeover. The city does, however, have some unique Wild West artifacts that could help it get back in the black. Auctioning the items could raise much-needed funds.

Christmas Tree Fee Causes Uproar

The Obama administration put off a plan to collect a fee on Christmas trees. An industry group asked for the fee, 15 cents per tree. Conservatives denounced what they labeled a tax on Christmas trees. The White House defended the fee, saying it's not a tax at all. All the same, the administration says it will delay collecting the money.

Did The Emergency Alert System Test Pass Muster?

Had Wednesday's first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System been a real alert, some may have been left in the dark. Instead of that irritating tone interrupting television and radio programming, some TV viewers heard Lady Gaga singing "Paparazzi." Others had their programming switched to QVC, a home shopping channel.

Greece's New Interim Prime Minister Faces Huge Task

Lucas Papademos was named prime minister of the new Greek interim government Thursday. His main task will be to implement the multibillion-dollar bailout that Eurozone leaders agreed to last month. Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri is the first Guantanamo detainee to have his case tried under the Obama administration's revamped rules for military commissions; he could be put to death if found guilty in the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen. The trial is a test of whether a separate military justice system can provide the same impartial justice as a U.S. criminal court.

Ohio Voters Repeal Collective Bargaining Law

Voters in Ohio have defeated a new law that limits the collective bargaining rights of unionized public workers. Since the law hadn't taken effect yet, current union rules will remain in place. Ohio voters hope their outcome will send a message to other states considering similar laws.
