Welcome to "Metro Connection." I'm Rebecca Sheir and here's something you don't often hear this time of year.

That, of course, is my esteemed colleague, Pat Brogan, reading the temperature at 4:04 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. And I've got to say, I could listen to those words all day. In fact, let me just play them one more time.

BROGAN

Ah, 81 degrees in Northwest Washington, in the middle of March, lovely.

Spring, my friends, is pretty much here, even if the calendar says otherwise. So with that in mind, this week's show is exploring two things the spring season is all about, rebirth and renewal. We'll visit a D.C. neighborhood that's trying to wipe its slate clean and help kids escape a vicious cycle of poverty. We'll explore metros efforts to revamp our public transit system and how its commuters are responding. And we'll meet an artist who's making everything old, new again and putting it on display.
