This Week on Metro Connection: Back to School

Welcome to "Metro Connection," I'm Rebecca Sheir. And while it still feels and looks like summer, the season is actually drawing to a rapid close here in the District since Monday marks the start of the new academic year. So we've decided to head back to school as well and bring you an hour of stories and interviews all about reading, writing and 'rithmetic in the D.C. region.

We'll hear from one of the city's master educators who is tasked with deciding whether struggling teachers get to keep their jobs. We'll go inside some local charter schools and find out what happens when they suddenly shut their doors. We'll meet a man who draws his lessons from the dirt as he searches for fossils in Maryland's Dinosaur Alley and we'll find out how a self-professed math geek in D.C. is bringing numbers to life on the stage, page and screen.
