A Message to Our Listeners
After many weeks of consultation, research, and analysis, and with the benefit of a spirit of cooperation put forth by several of our Sunday bluegrass hosts, WAMU 88.5 has found a way to incorporate Weekend Edition Sunday AND American Routes into the station's Sunday line-up.
We've done so without compromising our commitment to the bluegrass and traditional American music programs our listeners have come to expect.
You'll still start your Sundays with Red Shipley and Stained Glass Bluegrass from 6-10 a.m. Beginning Sunday, April 22, Liane Hansen, puzzle master Will Shortz, and Weekend Edition Sunday will join our Sunday line-up from 10 a.m.-noon. Ray Davis will take the air at noon, and play his signature blend of bluegrass, including "plum pitiful tunes," prison songs, and Hymntime, on The Ray Davis Show until 3 p.m. Dick Spottswood will continue to highlight the many facets of folk culture on The Dick Spottswood Show from 3-4 p.m., and Nick Spitzer's American Routes will make a welcome return to our schedule from 4-5 p.m. The remainder of the Sunday schedule, including The Big Broadcast with Ed Walker from 7-11 p.m., will remain unchanged.
The only sad news in all of this is that, because of his many commitments, and in support of the opportunity for WAMU 88.5 to extend its news service to seven days a week, Eddie Stubbs and WAMU 88.5 have mutually agreed to discontinue The Eddie Stubbs Show, which began airing here in 1990. Eddie's "Farewell Show" will air Sunday, April 15. Though seeing The Eddie Stubbs Show come to a close is a tremendous loss, I'm grateful for Eddie's many years of service to this station, appreciative of his kind words as he says farewell to his Washington, D.C., listeners, and glad he now will have the time he wants to focus on his extremely busy Nashville career.
For those who would like to hear two hours of The Dick Spottswood Show, it's available on Bluegrass Country, online and in HD Radio, at midnight-2 a.m., and 3-5 p.m., Sundays; 10 a.m.-noon, Thursdays; and 4-6 a.m., Fridays.
I want to thank all our listeners for your flexibility, your patience, and your continued support as we've made changes to strengthen our schedule this year. It's been quite a whirlwind, but I believe WAMU 88.5 is well-positioned to be your community radio station – and your home for NPR news – for many years to come. Thank you for listening!
Sincerely,
Caryn G. Mathes
WAMU 88.5 General Manager
