Undocumented immigrants in Herndon, Virginia are feeling the heat these days. Town officials are pushing a number of 'get-tough' measures - including the possibility that local police will begin to enforce immigration laws. Some recent immigrants say they're thinking about leaving town. But others are instead working to convince Herndon residents that they can be an asset. Metro Connection's Sarah Hughes reports.
Advocates for domestic violence victims say the death this month of a woman in Prince George's County, revealed major flaws in the judicial system - - a system they say makes it too difficult for victims to get "protective orders" that prevent their abusers from approaching them. Metro Connection's Lisa Nurnberger reports.
Commentator Fred Fiske says seniors better watch out for the Medicare prescription drug program "donut hole."
On Saturday October 14th, more than 400 vehicles will be on display at the annual Rockville Antique and Classic Car Show. If it seems like you've been seeing more OLD cars driving around the Washington region these days, well - you probably have. Look no further than the dozens of cruise-ins and car shows happening every weekend at fast-food restaurants and shopping center parking lots from Frederick, Maryland to Fredericksburg, Virginia. Detroit's big three automakers may be struggling to sell NEW cars, but buyers are snapping up the ones they built 30 and 40 years ago like never before. Reporter Stuart Cohen did some cruising of his own to find out what's driving Washington's classic car boom.
Singer... songwriter... radio host... music promoter, Mary Sue Twohy stops by for an in-studio performance. She's playing a live show in Bethesda this weekend and recently released her third album, "Songs To Hang On Stars." Joining her in the studio are two Grammy-winners, pianist Jon Carroll and bassist Charlie Pilzer.
Human oddities, sword swallowing... and beer. If you ever wished the atmosphere of an old circus sideshow could somehow translate into the world of DC nightlife, have we got the place for you. The Palace of Wonders on H street Northeast is packed with relics from actual sideshows and dime museums and the bartenders have been known to swallow the odd sword or two. This is no sanitized theme restaurant, this is the real deal. And it's not for the squeamish. Jeff Bagato is the author of the book "Mondo DC - An Insiders Guide to Washington DC's Most Unusual Tourist Attractions." And today's attraction fully earns that "mondo" title.
It's mid-term election season, it's getting down to crunch time for the campaigns, and there seem to be more issues to keep track of than ever before. That's why we asked Commentator Jim Helein to help sort things out with another edition of the Metro Connection Answer Man. He's here once again to provide answers to all your most important election questions.
