The Politics Hour with Kojo and Jonetta
Every Friday at noon, The Politics Hour with Kojo and Jonetta connects you to your community -- interviewing news-makers and delving beyond the headlines to help listeners understand how government actions affect their lives.
Following the axiom that "all politics is local," The Politics Hour with Kojo and Jonetta allows listeners to hear from -- and speak with -- our region's elected officials, community activists, and business leaders. We connect the dots between events happening in Washington, D.C., and the statehouses in Annapolis and Richmond (along with the suburbs in between), revealing the links between seemingly unrelated political debates. It's a serious mandate for a show that doesn't take itself too seriously: The Politics Hour operates on the principle that politics can be fun.
The Politics Hour with Kojo and Jonetta on WAMU 88.5 is my source for candor and outrageous truth-seeking. -- Judith, a WAMU 88.5 listener in Washington, D.C.
Host Kojo Nnamdi and political analyst Jonetta Rose Barras bring both irreverent humor and a deep understanding of the region to each weekly discussion. Kojo joined WAMU 88.5 in 1998 and is host of the television program "Evening Exchange" on WHUT-TV at Howard University. Jonetta Rose Barras is a columnist for the Examiner newspaper. Her writing has also appeared in the Washington Post, the Washington Times, and other publications. Together, Kojo and Jonetta have nearly sixty years of experience covering local politics for radio, TV, and newspapers, and have been an on-air team since 2002.
The Politics Hour with Kojo and Jonetta is energized by listener calls and email during, before or after the show. We encourage you to share your thoughts on the news of the week. Many great show topics and ideas come from the audience, and listener suggestions keep us on our toes and help to improve the quality of the discussion.
The Politics Hour with Kojo and Jonetta builds on our long-running show, The D.C. Politics Hour with Kojo and Jonetta. That program focused exclusively on the politics and personalities of the District of Columbia. In January 2008, we expanded our focus to include Maryland and Virginia coverage as well.
Whether you tune in for the local news-maker interviews or just to hear what Kojo or Jonetta will say next, we hope you'll join us for The Politics Hour with Kojo and Jonetta, at noon every Friday, with an encore airing at 8 p.m., Friday evenings.
