What's this?

12:06Spending the Fourth of July In D.C.

Guest host: Jennice Fuentes

For many Washington area residents, the Fourth of July is about more than just celebrating our nation's independence -- it's also about celebrating a chance to get out of town for a few days. But this year, the high costs of traveling are grounding many of us at home for the holiday. We'll discuss local destinations and events that can make the holiday more exciting or relaxing for those who stay home this year, as well as ways to avoid the throngs of people descending on the area's most popular sites.

Guests

Fritz Hahn, Bars and Clubs Editor, Washingtonpost.com

12:25Smithsonian Folklife Festival

NASA, Texas, and the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan share more than just Mall space at this year's Smithsonian Folklife Festival. We explore some cultural commonalities -- and find out what we can all learn from the Bhutanese.

Guests

Richard Kennedy, Acting Director, Smithsonian Institution Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage; and co-curator of Bhutan Programme, Smithsonian Folklife Festival

Kinley Dorji, founding editor of Bhutan's first national newspaper, "Kuensel"

Francoise Pommeret, resident of Bhutan; a French scholar of Bhutanese history

13:06"Foolishly Forgotten Americans"

Guest host: Jennice Fuentes

When they declared independence from Great Britain, the Founding Fathers probably never imagined they were setting the stage for a range of colorful Americans to prosper. We explore the stories of some of these almost-famous men and women -- from pirates and patriots to the clerk who "saved" the Constitution.

Guests

Michael Farquhar, Author, "A Treasury of Foolishly Forgotten Americans" (Penguin)

13:42Travel Photography

Guest host: Jennice Fuentes

It's happened to all of us -- we get home from vacation and develop our photos, only to find they don't match our memories of what we saw. Some might chalk that up to traveler's nostalgia, but it could be that we just need a few photography tips. We'll talk with a professional photographer about things amateurs can do to take great photos on vacation -- whether we're shooting the Eiffel Tower, Mount Rushmore, or the Fourth of July fireworks on the National Mall.

Guests

E. David Luria, Photographer; Founder and Director of the Washington Photo Safari
