Special Election 2007
D.C. voters head back to the polls on May 1 to choose two members of the City Council and a representative to the Board of Education.
Special elections don't always attract a lot of attention, especially when they occur several months after a regular election cycle. But this year's election is a crowded, intensely competitive race. Nineteen people have thrown their hat in the ring in Ward 4, and 17 people are running in Ward 7. Some of the candidates have quickly amassed large campaign chests, and the outcome could have a big impact on a City Council still adjusting to a new political landscape.
In the Board of Education race, seven people are seeking to represent District II, even as the mayor moves to change the Board's role in the city's schools bureaucracy.
As part of WAMU's coverage of the special election, we've "opened the mic" to each of the candidates to allow them to introduce themselves and explain why they deserve to win on May 1. Click on the links below to listen.
