Tonight's show was a gallimaufry assortment covering a wide range of music.
Some highlights:
[1] We listened to some of the early recordings of pianist Fats Waller, accompanying several vaudeville blues singers, not to mention the kazoo-playing team of Clarence Williams and Clarence Todd. These titles are from the first of four multi-CD reissues of a complete Fats Waller chronology on the JSP label. I do note, however, that most of the volumes in a comparable series from BMG remain in print, and with a few exceptions, these boast good sound, too.
[2] We noted the end of the Bing Crosby reissue series on Jonzo, but heralded the continuation of the Crosby reissue project by the Sepia label. The Sepia label is available from a number of sources. However, if some of the earlier volumes of Crosby on Jonzo might also be of interest to you, give a call o Wig Wiggins at 703-241-5608. He's the U.S. distributor of the Jonzo label, and can provide the current Sepia release and subsequent volumes to you as they appear. Wig will be only to pleased to talk to you about anything Bing.
[3] First Generation Radio Archives has released its second set of transcriptions by the Coconut Grove Ambassadors. Tonight, we featured some titles by the Jimmie Grier Orchestra.
