Child welfare on the global level has improved in many ways, with better education and basic healthcare reaching more young people than ever. But warfare is a major stumbling block to further improvement. Young children, even pre-adolescents, are being recruited and sometimes forced to serve as combatants. Other children are taken prisoner, displaced, or sexually abused as a direct result of war. A panel talks about child soldiers and children otherwise affected by war, and what can be done to protect children from the effects of armed adult conflicts.
