Ed Walker elected to National Radio Hall of Fame
WAMU 88.5 announced today that Ed Walker, Washington radio legend and host of WAMU 88.5's The Big Broadcast, has been elected to the National Radio Hall of Fame in the category "Local or Regional - Pioneer." Walker's professional radio career began in 1951 as an American University freshman and one of the founders of WAMU-AM, the campus radio station that preceded the current FM station, WAMU 88.5. He re-joined the station in 1990 as host of the popular old time radio program, which airs on Sundays from 7-11 p.m.
The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, "Turn the radio on." More about The Big Broadcast and Ed Walker.
