Feb. 1-10: FELA!

For an energetic musical performance that will get you up out of your seat and leave you tapping your toes, you can go to Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Sidney Harman Hall through February 10 to see FELA!, a Tony Award-winning production directed and choreographed by Bill T. Jones. Based on the music and life of Fela Kuti, the father of Afrobeat, the play transports you to Nigeria in the 1970s. The cast of professional musicians and dancers rarely sits still, and neither will you.

Feb. 1-23: Twelfth Night

Starting tonight you can see Taffety Punk Theatre Company’s presentation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, which runs through February 23 at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. Director Michelle Shupe’s unique adaptation of the play takes place not on shore, but in the watery depths of the Adriatic Sea, where after a shipwreck, Viola struggles for life and loses consciousness. From there, she begins the journey into her subconscious, where nothing and no one is quite what it seems.

Music: “Zombie” by Fela Kuti

It's Boom Times For Pop-Up Shops As Mobile Shopping Clicks

One-click online shopping is changing how we shop. Stores with leases as short as a day are proliferating — meaning a storefront can be a designer clothing store one day and a test kitchen the next.
