Jan. 23-Apr. 14: Uncultivated
January doesn't provide the best opportunities to stop and sniff the roses, but at two local photography exhibits you can appreciate the natural world, even if you can't smell it. Uncultivated is a public art project by Lynn Cazabon that features photos of wild plants growing between the bricks and sidewalk cracks of urban environments. The prints use QR codes and Google maps, allowing those with smartphones to identify the plants and trace their location. Are lilies more deserving of life than daisies and dandelions? You can decide for yourself at The Georgetown University Spagnuolo Art Gallery through April 14.

Jan. 23-Feb. 24: U.S. 17: The Scenic Highway/Hopeful Calm & Beginnings
You can check out snapshots from Virginia to Florida in U.S. 17: The Scenic Highway/Hopeful Calm & Beginnings, which will be up at ArtSpace Herndon through February 24. The exhibit presents photography by Catherine Powers and Michael Austin Kane, who each have a unique approach to capturing the diversity and beauty of our surroundings.
