Jan. 16-Feb. 5: Towards Abstraction
You can view abstract work by a group of Corcoran College of Art + Design — educated painters through February 5 at The Watergate Gallery, which is hosting a reception tonight at 6:30 p.m. for the exhibit, entitled Towards Abstraction. Each of the painters employs a unique method and ideology in his or her work, with inspiration ranging from personal travels to the natural world.

Jan. 18-27: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Speaking of the abstract, starting this Friday you can watch The National Ballet of Canada dance down the rabbit hole and across the stage at The Kennedy Center, where the ensemble will be performing Alice's Adventures in Wonderland through January 27. Lewis Carroll's whimsical tale of a young girl's sojourn in Wonderland comes to life as the company recreates memorable characters such as the Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts. The theatrical presentation is co-produced with The Royal Ballet of London and is choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon.

Music: "Little Alice" by Danny Elfman
