Jan. 9-Feb. 1: Dominie Nash Solo Exhibit
What does the word "fiber" call to your mind? Whether you think of bran flakes, morality, or the clothes on your back, it's an element of our daily lives, and even though it's probably not what your doctor has in mind, you can get your daily dose of fiber...through art! BlackRock Center for the Arts is hosting an exhibit of fiber art by Dominie Nash through February 1. Apples, leaves and kitchenware come together in artfully stitched quilts that seek to draw a new perspective from seemingly mundane objects.
Jan. 10-13: Free sketching workshop
Tomorrow afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. you can observe works of art and create some of your own at 2013's first National Gallery of Art Drawing Salon series event. The free sketching workshop will be held in the West Building East Garden Court, where artists and museum educators will lead the first-come, first-served event.
Jan. 10-24: An Evening with Jon Carroll and People
The Athenaeum is hosting An Evening with Jon Carroll tomorrow at 7 p.m., when the two-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter will perform a solo show. You can also head to the venue's gallery to check out local painter Frances Seeger's latest exhibit People, which will be up through February 24.
