Jan. 4-26: Donkeys & Elephants: A Celebration of American Political Cartoons
So long as the United States continues to have a two-party system, our lawmakers will be portrayed by the two party animals. Studio Gallery's Donkeys & Elephants: A Celebration of American Political Cartoons demonstrates the important role that political illustrations play in American media and history. The exhibit features more than 70 pieces, including contemporary works from 2012 and some of Thomas Nast's earliest portrayals of the iconic donkey and elephant. There will be an opening reception tonight starting at 6:30, and you can look forward to an artist talk on the 22nd with Kevin Kallaugher, editorial cartoonist for The Economist magazine.

Jan. 4-27: Shades of White
Alexandria's Del Ray Artisans presents its all-member show tonight, which will run through the 27th. In Shades of White, artists from different disciplines use only the various hues and tones found in white to create their work. You may be surprised by what you see, as the artists demonstrate that there's a lot more to white than meets the eye.
