Dec. 19-Feb. 15: Heavenly Jade of the Maya
The world is scheduled to end this Friday, according to the Ancient Mayan calendar. But assuming we're not fighting off zombies or floating about in a D.C.-turned-Atlantis, you'll have plenty of time to see the rare Mayan artifacts that are being unveiled today at the Inter-American Development Bank Cultural Center. The Heavenly Jade of the Maya exhibition, on loan from Guatemala's National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, includes many items that have never been seen outside Guatemala, where they were recently discovered. The collection features pieces from Mayan temples and tombs, including costumes, figurines, and jewelry.
