Dec. 12 -Jan. 12: "Heroines, Angels, Muses"
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but that concept isn't exclusive to photos. In "Heroines, Angels, Muses: Twenty Years of Stories Spoken Through Images," Argentine-born artist Alfredo Ratinoff presents works in glass, clay, and enamels that depict both real stories from history and the tales we grow up hearing. The exhibition will be up at The Watergate Gallery through January 12.

Dec. 12: Appearance of Life
Tonight you can go to Busboys and Poets in Hyattsville for a staged reading of Appearance of Life by Jennifer Jones. When Margarita's 20-year-old daughter becomes one of the desparecidos of Argentina's Dirty War, she explores every avenue to find her. Tonight's event starts at 7 p.m.

Dec. 12: Waaxe's Law
For a story from the U.S. history books, you can head to the Newseum tonight for a free performance of Waaxe's Law by Cherokee playwright and attorney Mary Kathryn Nagle. The staged reading tells the story of Ponca Indian chief Standing Bear, who went all the way to federal court to protest the forced removal of his tribe from its native lands.
