Nov. 8: S/He is Nancy Joe
What do you get when you combine gender issues with comic book animations, hip-hop, ballet and physical mime? You can find out tonight at the American premiere of S/he is Nancy Joe, a mixed-media performance that combines a variety of dance styles with comic book visuals, lighting, and spoken narrative. This work of contemporary art by performer Mrenka Cechova explores gender identity, and is inspired by the artist's relationships with transgender people. You can catch S/he is Nancy Joe through Sunday at The Mead Theatre Lab at Flashpoint.
Nov. 8-Dec. 16: "A Quiet Field of Surfaces"
"A Quiet Field of Surfaces" opens tonight at Adah Rose Gallery in Kensington, Maryland. The exhibit features sculpture by Jessica Drenk and D.C.native Brie Husted. Drenk uses basic objects to highlight the beauty and chaos in simple materials, while Husted leans on her architectural experience to create elegant, musical sculptures.
