(Oct. 20) The Lennon and McCartney of Kids' Music
Trout Fishing in America has been called "the Lennon and McCartney of kids' music," and there's little question why. The duo behind "My Hair Had a Party Last Night," "When I Was a Dinosaur," and "Hello, My Chicken Thinks He's a Dog" brings an infectious blend of folk-pop peppered with reggae, blues, and jazz to the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas tomorrow. Don't be caught off guard by the height differential between 6'9" guitarist Ezra Idlet and 5'5-1/2" upright bass player Keith Grimwood.
(Oct. 19-20) Cirque Chinois
The circus is in town this weekend. This one comes all the way from China. Direct from Beijing, The National Circus of the People's Republic of China promises a stunning show of tricks almost as long as its name at George Mason University's Center for the Arts in Fairfax.
(Oct. 19-25) "Beauty Is Embarassing"
"Beauty Is Embarrassing" opens today at Washington's West End Cinema. The documentary delves into the life of one Wayne White, who goes from struggling cartoonist, to Emmy Award-winning set designer, to artist-in-crisis, to fine art world darling. White narrates his own reminder that we should follow our dreams to make sure the message gets across.
