(Oct. 12-Nov. 9) Palimpsest Project
Information is as plentiful as oxygen these days, and a group of Washington artists wants to know how that's affecting us. Palimpsest explores the layering of information in contemporary society with paintings, photography, video, and sound beginning today at Washington Project for the Arts in Northwest. Viewers take part in the process by scanning QR codes to learn more about the work.

(Oct. 12-Dec. 31) The Serial Portrait
Before digital made it easy, photographers in the early 20th century began taking multiple photos of the same subjects to provide more compelling portrait studies. More than 100 works by 20 artists who provocatively captured friends, families, and themselves are presented in The Serial Portrait, showing through the end of the year at the National Gallery of Art.

(Oct. 12) Janka Nabay & the Bubu Gang
Janka Nabay fled his native Sierra Leone for Brooklyn during the country's brutal civil war. He attempted to pick back up where he left off-taking Bubu music to new places by fusing traditional chants and rhythms with contemporary sounds. Dreams do come true: Janka Nabay & the Bubu Gang perform tonight at Tropicalia in Northwest.
