(Oct. 4-10) AFI Plata
It's National Hispanic Heritage Month and the AFI Silver in Silver Spring is celebrating with the Latin American Film Festival through next Wednesday. A Mexican working in the States returns home to his family only to feel a touch alienated in Here and There, screening Thursday; the Argentine junta of the late 70s is explored with a twist in Clandestine Childhood Friday; and Salma Hayek helps take on the Spanish media in the satirical As Luck Would Have It next Tuesday.

(Oct. 4-7) Don't forget about Asia!
When it comes to film festivals, Latin America isn't the only game in town. The 13th Annual DC Asian Pacific American Film Festival kicks off Thursday and continues through the end of the weekend at a few of your favorite Washington cinemas.

(Oct. 5-7) Burundi's Best
There's an opportunity to take in some Central African sounds this weekend at George Mason University's Center for the Arts. The Royal Drummers and Dancers of Burundi bring beats and moves based on some of the region's most ancient traditions, and blend them with contemporary culture.
