(Aug. 30-Nov. 4) My House is not my House
A couple of animators study how humans interact with nature and each other in My House is not my House, showing at Artisphere in Arlington through early November. The series deals with themes of isolation, suburbia, and Western culture. The “digital paintings” were created over the World Wide Web, where the two artists exchanged storyboards and sounds.
(Aug. 30-Sept. 6) Robot & Frank
For a tale of one aging human’s interaction with the robot his son forced on him there’s Robot & Frank. The dramatic comedy set in the near future is showing through September 6 at the Bethesda Row Cinema. Frank Langella plays the titular Frank, a retired cat burglar who thinks about getting back in the game with the help of his obedient friend.
(Sept. 1-3) Playwrights galore
For more dramatic comedies, straight comedies, tense dramas, and musicals there’s the 11th Annual Page-to-Stage Festival at The Kennedy Center all weekend. The three-day event offers audiences a glance at new works being prepared for about 40 of the District’s finest stages.
