(Aug. 15-16) Farewell, My Queen
It’s a good week for Francophiles in the District. There’s another big screen take on the royal court of Marie Antoinette showing at Washington’s West End Cinema. Based on the novel by Chantal Thomas, Farewell, My Queen captures the passions, debauchery, and occasional nobility in Versailles that preceded the Revolution.

(Aug. 15-31) The French Collection
You can brush up on your 18th and 19th century French art at the National Gallery of Art. Guided tours of French selections take you from the neoclassical and romantic to the realist and impressionist. The mysteries behind pieces by Cezanne, Gauguin, and a few of their contemporaries are revealed every afternoon through the end of the month.

(Aug. 16) Parlez-vous?
If you’re looking for an actual opportunity to speak or brush up on your French, the Phillips Collection in Northwest has Art and Romance tomorrow night. You can meet fellow Francophones in the Phillips café between 6 and 8 to discuss your love of art or anything else en francais. Beloved romance languages Italian and Spanish will also be in the house.
