(Aug. 11 - Sept. 3) That’s Mr. Michelangelo Antonioni to you!
Some would argue Michelangelo Antonioni is one of the most influential filmmakers that ever lived. That’s because the Italian’s art films inspired folks like Akira Kurosawa and Stanley Kubrick. This September brings the 100th anniversary of his birth, and the National Gallery of Art is screening a retrospective of his most distinguished works tomorrow through early September.

(Aug. 10-Feb. 3) Ali Baba and the 1001 Inventions
The earlier part of our last millennium may have been a dark time for some, but it wasn’t all bad. Major innovations were made in time-keeping, hydraulics, architecture, and math. The National Geographic Museum in Northwest explores those and more in 1001 Inventions: Discover the Golden Age of Muslim Civilization. The exhibit is showing through early February.

(Aug. 11) Thanks, India!
The Sackler Gallery celebrates all things Indian this Saturday on the Mall. Inspired by India features traditional dancing, music, and storytelling for the whole family. You’ll also have an opportunity to decorate yourself with bindis, watch artists create rice-powder paintings, and take in some vintage Bollywood.
