(Aug. 3-Sept. 30) It’s awning!
If you’re going to head out to a park this weekend, why not make it one with an art installation? Marvin Gaye Park in Northeast Washington is a good candidate. D.C. artist Patrick McDonough’s Awning Studies is situated next to the park’s recreation center through late September. True to its name, the installation explores what can be done with awnings when you separate them from houses or buildings using colorful fabric, customized wood frames and steel supports.

(Aug. 4-Sept. 2) Fresh Produce
Dozens of D.C. artists, working in about a dozen media, showcase their work at Southeast Washington’s The Fridge beginning tomorrow. Fresh Produce features homegrown graffiti art, short films, and theater through early September.

(Aug. 4) Sans Simon
Arlington’s Signature Theatre holds its annual Open House this Saturday beginning at noon. As expected, the event brings live music and performance to four stages, but you’ll also find a number of locals singing for top honors in the Theatre’s third “Signature Idol Competition.”
