Washington Printmakers Gallery is going small this August. The outfit opens its 15th Annual National Small Works Exhibition today. Fifty artists from across the nation show what they can do in works smaller than 170 square inches through the end of the month.

(Aug. 1-26) Little Shop in Olney
AND A BIG, mysterious human-eating plant takes to the stage of Olney Theatre today. The musical version of Little Shop of Horrors finds a hapless florist getting everything he wants at the negligible cost of feeding his famous plant a little human flesh here and there. Olney’s production promises to bring the laughs, as well as a few insights into human nature, through late August.

(Aug. 1) Back to the future of theater production
Three New York-based stage actresses drop by the District tonight to pay tribute to a few of our nation’s finest female playwrights. Kathleen Chalfant, Maryann Plunkett, and Tamara Tunie bring witty and dramatic scenes from the plays of Zoe Akins, Lillian Hellman, Edith Wharton, and many more to Georgetown University’s Davis Performing Arts Center.
