(July 6-8) An Oklahoma Treasure
With the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in full swing, there’s going to be a fair amount of storytelling on the National Mall this weekend. The National Museum of the American Indian gets into the spirit with a play based on the life of one exemplary storyteller. Te Ata explores the life and work of Mary Thomson “Te Ata” Fisher, who was declared an “Oklahoma Treasure” after dedicating her life to enchanting audiences with American Indian folklore.

(July 7-11) Selections from the Silly Symphonies
Another master storyteller is remembered on the Mall this weekend through Wednesday. The National Gallery of Art shows some love to Walt Disney’s early work with Selections from the Silly Symphonies. The short film series explored new animation techniques and introduced a couple of classic characters, including one Donald Duck and a dog named Pluto.

(July 7-28) Summertime, and the music is free
If your summer wouldn’t be complete without some outdoor music, BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown has you covered every Saturday night through the end of the month. Local musicians share blues, jazz, soul, and rock specifically tailored for romantics.
