(July 3) The Age of Light
Have you been taking lasers for granted recently? Because there’s a navy scientist who’s here to tell you why you shouldn’t. Dr. J. Thomas Schriempf, who has spent a lifetime studying how laser light interacts with matter, breaks down how lasers work and gives examples of their applications in industry, medicine, and the arts tonight at Morrison House in Alexandria.

(July 4-Sept. 3) Mini-Golf Museum
Here’s hoping you haven’t been taking mini-golf for granted, but even if you have, there’s an opportunity to play in an unconventional setting this summer. The National Building Museum opens a mini-golf course made by some of the region’s top architects and designers tomorrow. The course will feature items from the museum that wouldn’t look totally out of place-like toy windmills. You can putt right through to Labor Day.

(July 5) That “Special Relationship”
Tomorrow’s all about these United States, but Thursday’s all about Great Britain-at least at the Phillips Collection in Northwest. This month’s edition of Phillips After 5 celebrates the work of featured British artist Antony Gromley with a distinctly English evening of fashion, music, and Monty Python.
