(June 27-August 24) Summer Screens off the Green
Washington’s annual Screen on the Green movie festival doesn’t get started for another few weeks, but there are several other outdoor outlets to keep you busy until then. NoMa Summer Screen projects every Wednesday through early August at Second and L Streets in Northeast Washington. This year’s slate asks whether 2012 will bring the end of the world with films chock-full of doom and gloom and Will Smith. Tonight it’s 1984’s Ghostbusters.

Rosslyn is down with summer celluloid too, less so the apocalypse. Being that it’s an election year and all, every Friday brings a chance to laugh about politics or, in the case of one July Friday, remember Watergate. The films screen in Gateway Park at the base of Key Bridge until the end of August, when the festival closes out with Canadian Bacon.

(June 28) Basquiat
For an indoor film that’s not part of a festival but is about a seminal artist, the American Art Museum screens Basquiat tomorrow. The 1996 biopic starring Jeffery Wright chronicles the late New Yorker’s rise from homeless street artist to art world icon.

3-D Printer Makes Life-Saving Splint For Baby Boy's Airway

A 3-D printer is being credited with helping to save an Ohio baby's life, after doctors "printed" a tube to support a weak airway that caused him to stop breathing. The innovative procedure has allowed Kaiba Gionfriddo, of Youngstown, Ohio, to stay off a ventilator for more than a year.
