(June 21-July 1) Take us to the Source!
Source Festival is going strong in Northwest Washington, and it continues through the end of the month. The annual event features ten-minute plays, full-length productions, talent shows and artistic blind dates that team artists from different disciplines together. This year’s themes are Redeeming Demons, Rites of Passage, and Ethereal Encounters, so you should expect productions about everything from sexting to a boy facing off against a polar bear.

(June 21-Feb. 24) I could do that!
Barnett Newman is one of the towering figures of American abstract expressionism. Mostly, he made canvas paintings of solid colors that prominently featured single or multiple off-colored "zips." Twenty-six of his influential works are showing at the National Gallery of Art through early 2013.

(June 21-July 1) Nxt/Step
Step Afrika! returns to the District today. The internationally renowned dance company premieres Nxt/Step at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Northeast through the first of July. The production brings modern dance, hip-hop beats, and multimedia elements together to reflect on contemporary culture.
