(June 10-Oct. 8) The Real Deal
George Bellows is considered one of the best artists this country has ever seen. Yet there hasn’t been a comprehensive exhibit of the prolific painter’s work in more than three decades. Well, Washington’s National Gallery of Art has had enough! A new show of his paintings, drawings, and prints of gritty New York life, Maine seascapes, and punched-out pugilists opens this Sunday and shows through early October.

(June 6-24) From the books
For more exceptional prints, Washington Printmakers Gallery has Ex Libris through late June. The exhibit features a wide range of traditional and contemporary works by Chinese artists.

(June 9) Listen to the Music
A local artist gets by with a little help from his friends this Saturday night at the Memorial Chapel in College Park. Washington pianist David Chapman’s fight with cancer has left him unable to play, but he has planned an evening of classical performance. Listen to the Music features dozens of the region’s musicians taking on Strauss, Mozart, Verdi, and just about every other giant of classical music you can name.
