(April 27-May 19) Hamlecchino: Clown Prince of Denmark
If you’re hoping to laugh your way through this last weekend of April the District has a number of offerings to give you a chortle or two. The Faction of Fools Theatre Company stages Hamlecchino: Clown Prince of Denmark tonight and tomorrow night at Gallaudet University. The commedia dell’arte version of the Bard’s tragedy employs masks, madness, and a whole lot of physicality to tell the story of the great Dane.
(April 27-28) Sylvia Traymore, a.k.a. Diana Ross, a.k.a. First Lady Michelle Obama, etc.
For some more clowning around Sylvia Traymore Morrison performs at the Riot Act Comedy Theater in Northwest this weekend. The District-born impressionist does her best Diana Ross, Whoopie Goldberg, and First Lady Michelle Obama.
(April 27-May 3) We Have A Pope
We Have A Pope opens today at Washington’s E Street Cinema if you’re in the market for a good papal comedy. The Italian film tells the story of Melville, a cardinal who suddenly finds himself elected as the leader of the Catholic Church. He panics. He refuses. He escapes the Vatican and runs around Rome telling people he’s an actor. His fellow cardinals pass the time with a volleyball tournament. You get the point.
Music: “Doin’ the Limbo” by James Brown
