(Feb. 22-May 16) Silent Clowns
Silent films are enjoying something of a resurgence thanks to 2011’s The Artist. If you’re interested in catching some classics there’s a hand-picked selection of comic shorts screening tonight with live musical accompaniment at the Alden Theater in McLean. The FIRST Kings of Comedy includes cuts from Laurel and Hardy, Charlie Chaplin, and Buster Keaton. The series continues through mid-May.
(Feb. 22-March 18) Chuck’s a Good Guy
A few of your favorite comic characters come alive in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, opening today at Olney Theatre. Charles Schulz’s beloved failure struggles through another day of book reports, baseball games, and existentialism with a little help from his friends in the lively musical.
(Feb. 22-April 15) Somewhere Over The Digital Prism
A classic is cut up and retold in Somewhere Over The Digital Prism, showing at Arlington’s Artisphere through mid-April. Viewers are forced to contend with their own memories of Dorothy’s famous ballad while watching a glitchy video that places Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion in Dorothy’s role.
