(Nov. 5-6) Prophets of Funk
New York’s David Dorfman Dance brings Prophets of Funk to the American Dance Institute in Rockville this weekend. The performance pays tribute to the uplifting and groundbreaking grooves of Sly and the Family Stone.

(Nov. 5, 12) DC A Cappella
They may not be as funky, but two a cappella troupes bring plenty of harmony to Georgetown University this Saturday and the next. Georgetown’s co-ed Phantoms and all-female GraceNotes perform oldies, rock, and plenty of pop with several notable guest groups for this year’s DC A Cappella Festival.

(Nov. 5-12) Fotoweek DC
FotoWeek DC gets underway tomorrow. Outstanding photojournalism and fine art from local and word-renowned photographers will be on view across the region in dozens of galleries, museums, and embassies.

(Nov. 6-April 8) In the Tower
Conceptual artist Mel Bochner’s In the Tower opens Sunday at the National Gallery of Art. The exhibition features 43 thesaurus-inspired paintings and drawings that explore the intersections of linguistic and visual interpretations. Expect lots of brightly colored words and exclamation points.

A 3-D printer is being credited with helping to save an Ohio baby's life, after doctors "printed" a tube to support a weak airway that caused him to stop breathing. The innovative procedure has allowed Kaiba Gionfriddo, of Youngstown, Ohio, to stay off a ventilator for more than a year.
