(Sept. 6-Oct. 2) Carpe diem
If you’re looking for a fresh take on a familiar subject, Del Rey Artisans in Alexandria has Retakes and Transformations through early October. The collection of art inspired by everyday life features works in a variety of media that reflect on routines, preferences and habits.
(Sept. 7-Oct. 18) Back in the habit
Northwest Washington’s Studio Theatre opens The Habit of Art tomorrow. The latest work from award-winning British playwright Alan Bennett of The History Boys fame examines the creative spirit. A play within the play almost falls apart when its director has to skip town. The actors and writer struggle through the production together and in doing so tell a story about friendship, desire, creativity and inspiration.
(Sept. 7) J Mascis
Singer-songwriter and indie rock legend J Mascis has been making poppy noise in bands like Dinosaur Jr. since the mid-80s. Mascis touches on points throughout his career and spends some time playing tunes from his latest, mostly folk effort tomorrow evening on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage.
Music: “In Too Deep” by J Mascis
