Art After Dark, art in the light and the upbeat version of The War on Drugs.

(Sept. 1) Art After Dark

The District’s art galleries and museums are finding that patrons rather enjoy the marriage of art, drinks, food and music after hours. The latest institution to hop on board is the Art Museum of the Americas on the National Mall. Art After Dark features a site-specific silk-screen installation, performance art, video and music from local luminaries tonight from 8 to midnight.

(Sept. 1-13) Delusions of Grandeur

Delusions of grandeur can be a good thing, or so argue three visual artists in Ascension showing during daylight hours at Parish Gallery in Georgetown through mid-September. They showcase colorful portraits and sculptures that make the argument that thinking big things about yourself is a reasonable way to end up doing big things for yourself.

(Sept. 2) The other war on drugs

For one reason or another Philadelphia’s The War on Drugs decided to name itself The War on Drugs. The acclaimed ramshackle rock band brings sounds spanning the past four decades to the Red Palace in Northeast tomorrow night. Expects songs about loneliness and the open road that channel everyone from Bob Dylan to the experimental indie-rockers in Animal Collective.
