DC's Environmental Film Festival ended months ago, but the folks behind the festival are having the equivalent of an off-season exhibition game tonight. They’re screening The City Dark at Washington’s E Street Cinema. The feature length documentary asks the question "Do we need the stars?" After moving to New York, filmmaker Ian Cheney started wondering how light pollution and the disappearing night sky affected humans. He’ll be on hand to discuss some of the answers he found after the film screens at 7 o’clock.

(Aug. 26-27) To Olney, or not to Olney?

Olney Theater Center has its 21st annual Summer Shakespeare Festival this weekend. Set in the Wild West, a fortune-seeking man attempts to woo a somewhat uninterested woman in Olney's take on The Taming of the Shrew. It's presented on the theater center's outdoor stage Friday and Saturday nights.
