A Tabloid Story, Art Crimes, Rock Creek poetry and Cambodian community.

(Aug. 19-28) A Tabloid Story

BUMP: A Tabloid Story opens today at Baltimore's Theatre Project. Set in present-day Los Angeles, the production tells the story of a party-crazy heiress who has just been released from prison. She quickly figures out that she's not the object of paparazzi affection any more and hatches a plan to get back into the limelight. It involves a new entourage, lots of drugs and a little girl, which shouldn't work out, right?

(Aug. 19) Art Crimes

D.C. artist and illustrator Chris Bishop opens Art Crimes tonight at The Dunes Gallery on Meridian Place in Northwest Washington. Bishop uses bold outlines, bright colors and cartoon figures to pay tribute to his two true loves: pretty girls and robots.

(Aug. 20) Rock Creek Poets

Rock Creek Park’s Carter Barron Amphitheatre hosts the 7th Annual DC Poetry in the Park Saturday night. This year’s event focuses on the words of the recently passed poet and musician Gil Scott-Heron.

(Aug. 21) Cambodian Community Day

Sunday is Cambodian Community Day in Alexandria. A celebration of Cambodian culture brings traditional food, art, crafts, live music and dance to Ben Brenman Park on Duke Street.
