(Aug. 2-Sept. 4) Stella Sculpture

Northwest Washington’s Phillips Collection has eight recent works by renowned American abstract artist Frank Stella through early September. Stella Sounds: The Scarlatti K Series features eight of Stella’s colorful spiraling sculptures. Eighteenth-century Italian composer Domenico Scarlatti’s harpsichord sonatas inspired them all.

(Aug. 2-Sept. 6) Taylor tribute

AFI Silver is paying tribute to Elizabeth Taylor until the end of the summer. Dozens of the actress’ film from the 40s through 70s are showing. Tonight it’s National Velvet, which tells the story of a gal who really, really loves her horse named Pie.

(Aug. 2) Metro music

Back in 2009, eight Metro employees with special talents got together and formed a music ensemble. The Metro Divas and Mass Transit Band play a range of jazz, gospel, R&B and big band jams tonight at the Kennedy Center.
