(Aug. 1-18) Meta-Beat

If you thought there was only one Art Beat in town, you were wrong: There are at least two. The other one is a collection of modern visual artworks showing at the Salar Galería de Arte in Bethesda through August 18th. The other Art Beat features the photography, collage and video art of five artists whose origins span all four hemispheres.

(Aug. 5-7) Flock together

Some well-traveled birds take a break in Fairfax through the end of the week. Hub Theatre’s Birds Of A Feather weaves two avian tales from New York together. Funny humans in bird costumes play two penguins that raise a chick together at Central Park and red-tailed hawks that make a home on the ledge of a luxurious 5th Avenue residential building.

(Aug. 2) Gillian and David

Gillian Welch and David Rawlings stop by Strathmore in North Bethesda tomorrow night for two sets of songs. The acclaimed duo is touring in support of The Harrow & The Harvest, its latest collection of bluegrass, folk and blues about identity, loss and unfulfilled expectations.
