Prince George's County Schools Consider Security Upgrades

Play associated audio

Security experts with the Prince George's County Public School System will recommend increasing security measures at all the county's schools in a briefing today, Patch reports.

The proposal includes installing cameras at school entrances, controlling access to schools through electronic entrances, installing panic button in schools' front offices and adding more police officers and other personnel to deal specifically with school-related security emergencies.

The security officials had already been examining the schools' security plans before the Sandy Hook school shooting in Connecticut. The cost estimate for the changes is more than $5.5 million. The school board would need to sign off on the scheme.
