Maryland lawmakers will consider various pieces of gun control legislation during this term.

The debate over Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley's gun control proposals will heat up this week as Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown hosts town hall meetings on gun violence tonight in Largo and tomorrow night in Rockville.

O'Malley designated Brown as his point person to get his extensive gun control legislation passed through the General Assembly. The governor wants to ban military style assault weapons, limit the size of ammunition magazines and institute some of the tightest licensing requirements for gun owners in the country.

The Maryland Senate Juidicial Proceedings Committee will take up the governor's gun control bill on Wednesday, along with three others regarding guns sponsored by Montgomery County Democrat Brian Frosh. Frosh chairs the Judicial Proceedings Committee.
