Officials from the American Civil Liberties Union want Maryland lawmakers to oppose legislation that will allow police to obtain cell phone tracking information without a search warrant, according to the Associated Press.
The civil liberties group will testify in front of the State House Judiciary Committee Tuesday. ACLU officials want law enforcement to obtain a search warrant based upon probable cause before accessing this information.
Mobile phones register their location with cell phone networks several times a minute, and the ACLU argues that knowing a person's location over time can invade his or her privacy.
