Chuck Brown Park will be created in a section of Langdon Park in Northeast D.C. Brown, known as "the godfather of go-go," died in 2012.

The legacy of go-go music icon Chuck Brown is being memorialized in Northeast D.C.

During last may's public memorial service for the "God-father of go-go," DC Mayor Vincent Gray promised to honor Brown with a park. Gray made good on his pledge Thurday, officially authorizing a portion of Langdon Park in Northeast D.C. as Chuck Brown Park.

The latest proposals for the memorial show the park serving as an outdoor concert venue with amphitheater-style seating for more than 900 people.

Gray, who invited Brown's family members to the Wilson Building for the signing, says he hopes the park will be ready to open by the summer.
