: Morning Edition 
Hundreds of millions of dollars are being set aside in Maryland to upgrade public schools and make them safer for children.
Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley's budget for the coming fiscal year includes $336 million for building new schools and upgrading the existing ones, according to the Associated Press. The plan will include $25 million for air conditioning in schools, needed because air conditioning helps fight against mold and allergens in the air.
Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown says the administration won't rest until all the state's nearly 1,400 schools are safe places for children to learn. The O'Malley administration has allocated a total of $2.4 billion for school construction since 2007.
